UEFA Champions League Final 2025 - PSG vs Inter Milan (Allianz Arena)
A Champions League Final which was dominated by PSG. A class above Inter on the night as they took the lead early on and were 2-0 up by the 20th minute. The star player was Desire Doue for PSG, with 2 goals and an assist for the French teenager.
The match was much more one sided then many would have predicted, especially due to the performances of both throughout the competition. In the previous round, Inter managed to defeat one of the best Barcelona sides in 5 years and PSG defeated an Arsenal side that knocked out the reigning champions.
Not many if any would have predicted such a one sided game but in the end a well deserved 5-0 victory to claim their first Champions League for Paris Saint-Germain. A result which ultimately cost Simone Inzaghi, with the Italian manager departing from Inter and moving to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal less than a week after the final.
A game too far for Inter Milan who became runners-up again just 2 years after the same fate in 2023 against Manchester City. Their wait for European silverware goes on as it now continues into the 16th consecutive year since their last success at this level. They had an incredible run again in this year’s competition and a semi-final victory that will go down in history as one of the best ever. A fresh start and new look for Inter next season as they try to regain the Scudetto and go one step further in the Champions League.
The opening goal of the match came within the first 12 minutes of the match. A great team goal, started by one of the stand out players in Vitinha as he played it to Kvaratskhelia on the left side. He played it inside to Fabian Ruiz who played it back to Vitinha. A lovely through ball pass to Doue in the box in loads of space, who was able to pick his pass across the box to a free Hakimi in the middle. Hakimi made no mistake tapping the ball into an open net with Sommer needing to close the angle for Doue. PSG deservedly opened the scoring, which was coming from the first whistle.
Just 8 minutes later, PSG doubled their lead in Munich. It stemmed from an Inter attack, which should have gone out for an Inter corner if it wasn’t for good defending from Willian Pacho keeping the ball in. The counter attack broke with Kvaratskhelia, who played the ball down the right side to Dembele. He cut in and switched the ball to the right side to Doue. Doue took a touch out of his feet, hit a shot which was deflected by Dimarco and went past a helpless Sommer.
A third was added just after the hour mark, with a beautiful team goal from PSG. It worked from the defence to the attack from Vitinha. A give and go between him and Marquinos then the same but with a lovely ball roll to return it to the feet of Vitinha. This set him away to a 3 on 2 in favour of the Parisians. Vitinha continued to drive with the ball and set a perfectly weighted pass to Doue. No touch was needed from Doue who took the shot just inside the box. PSG now had firm control of the match.
It got from bad to worse for Inter when it was made 4-0 by Kvaratskhelia. A rare blunder for Dembele on the night as he seemed to misplace a pass to Mendes, but Mendes showed the determination to immediately win the ball back for his team. The ball was then given back to Dembele on the left side. He lifted his head up and immediately saw Kvaratskhelia was in between the defence and through on the goal if he played the correct pass. Luckily, he played the perfect pass ahead of Kvaratskhelia who drove with the ball into the box and fired past Yann Sommer at the near post. The man that moved from Napoli in January seemed to justify his decision to move to Paris with this display from himself and the entire PSG team. No way back for Inter at that point, being 4-0 down with just 17 minutes left.
The final goal of the night was all made through the involvement of substitutes. Warren Zaire-Emery drove from the half way line and passed the ball to Bradley Barcola on the left side. He played it to the middle for 19 year old Senny Mayulu, who did a lovely give and go with Barcola after making a run through the Inter defence. He chose to go for power from close range, firing the ball past Yamm Sommer again at his near post. There was not much the Swiss keeper could have done with it coming off the post on its way to the back of the net. A perfect night for PSG capped off with another brilliant goal.
The deserved winners of the 2025 UEFA Champions League are Paris Saint-Germain! A complete squad, not just a team to go all the way in the competition and win the trophy for the first time in the club’s history. With Luis Enrique at the helm of it all, being the just the 7th manager in history to win the Champions League with 2 different clubs. A night that will live long in the memory of every player and staff member at PSG as well as all of their fans across the globe.
