Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles (Super Bowl LIX)

1ST QUARTER

15:00 ON THE CLOCK: The first play of Super Bowl 59 is given to Saquon Barkley, he spins his way through tackles to get a gain of 4. Jalen Hurts then has his first completion on the next play to DeVonta Smith for the first down. The Eagles hit a stumbling block on the next part of the drive but elect to go for it on 4th & 2. Hurts throws to A.J. Brown who seems to get the first down before a penalty flag is thrown. Tom Brady on the replay vocalises his displeasure at the call, saying “don’t like that one bit”. The ball goes to Kansas City for their first plays. 

11:20 ON THE CLOCK: Patrick Mahomes starts The Chiefs defense of the Vince Lombardi Trophy with a completion to Juju Smith-Schuster. Smith-Schuster has help from the Chiefs offense to push through tackles for the first down. However, Mahomes has to throw the ball in hope on 3rd & 9 with good pressure from the Eagles defense. He is unable to find one of his teammates and almost intercepted but avoids a disastrous start. 

9:04 ON THE CLOCK: Jalen Hurts is unpressured and has time to pick out a free Dallas Goedert past midfield for a first down. The 3rd & 5 threw to Goedert again but couldn't get to the ball and a pentlay flag for a shot to the head for an automatic first down. Tom Brady again says “I don’t like that one either”. On 2nd down Hurts goes long again to Jehan Dotson, he catches just before the 5 yard line and makes it to the endzone. It is initially given as a touchdown but on review it is determined that Dotson was down just before the goal line. The 1st & GOAL tush push is good by the Eagles for the first score of this year's Super Bowl. The Eagles lead by 7. 

3:47 ON THE CLOCK: DeVonta Smith and Jehan Dotson with good catches for multiple first downs. Jalen Hurts also makes a play by running through the Chiefs defense just before the first down marker on the 45 yard line. 

2ND QUARTER

14:21 ON THE CLOCK: On the 30 yard line, Jalen Hurts looks long again for A.J. Brown but it is intercepted by Safety Brian Cook. An unsuccessful attempt on 3rd down proves costly for the Eagles. 

12:53 ON THE CLOCK: The Chiefs have 3rd & 3 on their 9 yard line, Mahomes looks for Kelce. The ball is too low for Kelce to catch the ball, the Chiefs have to punt it back to the Eagles. Kansas City can’t seem to get their offense going in the most important game of the year. 

11:11 ON THE CLOCK: From the 46 yard line, Hurts throws again on 3rd down to A.J. Brown for another reception between the pair. An additional 3rd down comes up just short for Jalen Hurts as he tries to run for the first down again. A great tackle from Justin Reid makes the Eagles kick a field goal. Despite a penalty on the first attempt, Jake Elliot just about makes the second attempt to extend the lead for Philadelphia. Chiefs 0-10 Eagles. 

8:38 ON THE CLOCK: Great pressure from the Eagles defense as Josh Sweat and Jalyx Hunt get sacks on consecutive plays on Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs QB then tries to get the yardage needed by throwing the ball but it is intercepted by Cooper DeJean. He takes it all the way for a pick six! Tom Brady calls DeJean a “young stud” after a crucial play by the Eagles defender. 

1:49 ON THE CLOCK: After another sack for Patrick Mahomes, the Eagles had the ball again but were unable to make it count as it was punted straight back to the Chiefs. A 1st & 10 on their 6 yard line is thrown by Mahomes, but it is intercepted again! A pass looking for Marquise Brown is caught expertly by Linebacker Zack Baun. 

1:40 ON THE CLOCK: The 2nd & 8 from the 12 yard line is thrown to A.J. Brown on the left hand side of the field. He runs into the endzone with ease spinning the ball in celebration as the Eagles look to be in dreamland as the first half comes to a close. Philadelphia lead 0-24. 

HALF TIME - KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 0 - 24 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 

3RD QUARTER

10:42 ON THE CLOCK: The second half starts as the last one ends as Patrick Mahomes is sacked a further 2 times and the ball is handed back to Philadelphia. Jalen Hurts gets another first down from a run again before Saquon Barkley makes his best run of the game to get another first down for the Eagles. Then another run out of the pocket by Hurts on 2nd & 7 for a big gain to the 25 yard line. The next play is thrown to Barkley as the ball momentarily goes in the air before he collects it for the 1st & GOAL. The Eagles can’t get another touchdown from that position so Jake Elliott gets another 3 points from 29 yards. A massive 27 point lead for the Eagles with just 5 minutes and 1 quarter left to go in the game. 

4:25 ON THE CLOCK: A superb run from Mahomes as he jolts past defenders and looks to get the first down. However, a penalty is called on the Chiefs Offensive Line for holding. The Chiefs become their own enemy as they now have a 3rd & 12. Although, they do make progress with Travis Kelce getting his first catch of the game before Mahomes looks for Hopkins on 4th down but it is knocked away by Avonte Maddox. The Eagles have the ball again. 

2:47 ON THE CLOCK: Jalen Hurts and the Eagles make the Chiefs regret giving them the ball back instantly as Hurts throws the ball from near the 55 yard line. He goes deep all the way to the endzone and into the hands of DeVonta Smith. A quality play by Philadelphia as they go 34 points unanswered with just under 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter to go. 

2:33 ON THE CLOCK: From the 10 yard line, Mahomes goes in and out of the pocket before throwing long downfield to Xavier Worthy. A great pass and catch puts the Chiefs “finally in Eagles territory” as commentary states. A 3rd & 6 from the 37 yard line has Mahomes scrabbling before a shovel pass over 2 Eagles defenders to Travis Kelce for the first down and more. The Chiefs now on the 24 yard line with pressure from the Eagles defense. Mahomes throws just before going out of bounds into the endzone to a sliding who makes a terrific catch to give the Chiefs their first points of the game. The 2-point attempt is meant for Kelce but is incomplete. Chiefs 6-34 Eagles. 

4TH QUARTER 

15:00 ON THE CLOCK: The partnership of Hurts & Barkley links up again with Barkley getting the yardage for a first down and more. A 2nd & 7 a couple of plays later is thrown to A.J. Brown, he catches and keeps hold of the ball despite having a defender on him for another first down. Another 2nd down follows with Hurts running the play himself and making it past Defensive End Mike Danna before running the line for another first down. Great play but the Eagles QB. The 3rd down that proceeds that play is handed to Barkley but defended well to stop him well short of a first down. Elliott again from 48 yards this time with the same result of another 3 points on the board. The Eagles regain an over 30 point lead with less than 10 minutes to go. 

9:50 ON THE CLOCK: Another drive starts for the Chiefs with Mahomes on his own 20 yard line. Immense pressure again from Philadelphia as the ball comes loose again, Milton Williams with the strip sack and recovery. Possibly one of the most important plays in this game from the Eagles Defensive Tackle. 

8:13 ON THE CLOCK: A 3rd & 5 inside the Chiefs 30 for the Eagles as Barkley tries to get through but comes up short to set up another field goal. Another field goal converted, this time from 50 yards straight down the middle again. Making it a 5 possession game at 6-40. 

6:20 ON THE CLOCK: Mahomes finds Worthy for the first down on 2nd & 2 to get into Eagles territory. The Chiefs are better at converting 3rd downs in the second half with Perine going through on 3rd & 1 to keep the drive going. Another 2nd & short follows with Mahomes able to get the ball away before getting tackled and finds Hollywood Brown for another first down. The 3rd & 6 from the 7 is thrown to Hopkins in the corner of the endzone for another Chiefs touchdown. The 2-point attempt is good this time, Justin Watson with the catch. Chiefs 14-40 Eagles. 

2:54 ON THE CLOCK: The Chiefs go for the onside kick to try and regain possession. The ball seems to go into the arms of an Eagles player but then comes out before being dived on by Avonte Maddox. The Eagles regain possession. 

1:55 ON THE CLOCK: The Chiefs get the ball back shortly after the Eagles can’t make anything of their drive. Right on centre field as Mahomes winds up before going long, all the way into the endzone as Worthy dives and catches the ball for another Chiefs touchdown. Another 2-point conversion is caught and held by Hopkins to make the game 22-40. 

1:48 ON THE CLOCK: Another onside kick attempted by the Chiefs as a last chance. It is recovered by the Eagles as they can start celebrating their second franchise Super Bowl win. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is heading back to Philadelphia. Another terrific performance by Nick Sirianni’s team, a well deserved victory in the biggest NFL game of the year.
